“Groovinbear” - Whourkr (Concrete, 2008)
To those of you who are trying to make death metal and dubstep; get it fucking right. Here’s some inspiration.
For starters, this album is an experimental mess. In a good way. There are both easily coherent and comprehensible parts and there are also shambles of fucking insane, fucking twisted heavy guitars and gibberish vocals mash-ups. And both of these factors are all over the fucking place. The song to end all songs is a perfectly-normal acoustic-led metal song to play the album out. “Groovinbear” is the complete fucking antithesis of that song. It’s an album that requires a full listening experience - front to back - to be able to understand what anyone is talking about when they talk about this fucking album - and the band in general for that matter.
For a group from France - a country which has also produced the likes of Hacride and Gojira - this… this is fucking something else.
THIS is why I love experimental music more than any over polished, overproduced bullshit that mainstream music throws out. Because some times it can sound exactly the same, but even better. I’m looking at you, dubstep.
4247 Snare Drums was released by the band earlier this month, and I highly recommend you check that shit out. It’s by far the best, if not as jumbled, record put out by Whourkr.
